Earn Money from RSS Feeds

RSS feeds are very useful items for any website. They consist of a special piece of code that is embedded in the web page HTML code. After that they will automatically update and provide a never-ending supply of fresh content.

RSS originally stood for Rich Site Summary, but more recently the meaning of Really Simple Syndication seems to have taken over. Either way, they both mean more or less the same thing. RSS feeds provide a short summary of a story that can be clicked on to reveal the whole story. It is syndication at its simplest.

RSS feeds need an RSS reader to view them properly if they are not to be embedded in a web page. The Google Reader is a good choice, and there are many others too. Using an RSS reader you can subscribe to as many RSS feeds as you like and keep up to date on a particular topic, or follow an important news story.

An easy way to add an RSS feed to your web pages, or a different RSS feed to every page if you prefer, is to use the free Feedzilla news feeds.

These feeds are operated through JavaScript, a simple to use scripting language. All you have to do, though is add the code you are given. The site has a wizard which lets you customize the look and feel of the RSS feed in many different ways.

If you have never done anything technical like this before, don't worry, as Feedzilla makes it very easy to do. Just follow the instruction closely and accurately and it will work fine.

You can subscribe to RSS feeds from any site that has them. Look in the URL address bar of your browser when you land on a website. If you can see a small orange colored square with white curved lines radiating out from the bottom left-hand corner, that site has an RSS feed. If you click on the little orange square, you will be able to subscribe to the RSS feed of the page.

If you have a Wordpress blog, it is really easy to syndicate your own RSS feeds. Wordpress generates RSS feeds automatically, and you can get your site's RSS feed by using the URL:http://www.YourSiteName.com/feed/. You should, of course, replace YourSiteName with the actual domain of your site.

You will need an RSS feed distributer. You could do this yourself, but it will take a long time. RSSbot is an inexpensive feed distributor that is easy to use and works really well. It will distribute your feed to over 30 RSS feed aggregators. All you have to do is follow the easy instructions.

If you have a website with static pages that do not generate an RSS feed automatically, you can still create RSS feeds by using free services that do this for you. FeedForAll and Page2RSS are two examples where you can convert a static web page to an RSS feed.

Syndicating your website or blog's RSS feed to a large number of feed aggregators will provide you with very good quality valuable back links, which will help your website to rank better. If your website ranks well, you will have a much better chance of earning money from it.

Niche Marketing

Niche marketing refers to a style of marketing that focuses on a subset of a main subject area. An example of a niche could be, for example, "dog collars" taken from the broader subject area of "pet accessories." Another niche within this broad subject could be "hamster balls," the transparent plastic balls that hamsters are placed in that enables them to run around safely.

The advantages of marketing to a niche, as opposed to marketing to the broader subject area, is that you can be much more targeted. When you target potential buyer in a precise manner, they are much more likely to purchase. This makes niche marketing a more profitable type of activity.

For example, if you try to market to people who are interested in the broad subject area of "dogs," you don't really know what it is that interests them most. They may want to train a dog, find a dog collar, or perhaps they are looking for a particular breed of dog to buy as a pet. The possibilities are endless, and you simply cannot market effectively to every possibility.

When you narrow down the subject area from "dogs" to "dog collars" you are targeting a small segment of the broader topic. There won't be nearly as many people interested in "dog collars" as there are interested in "dogs," but they will know exactly what they want - dog collars and nothing but dog collars! This is why niche marketing is so much easier and so much more effective too.

You can focus down even further, if the market will support it. The topic of "black leather dog collars with silver studs" is extremely focused. If you are selling exactly that, then someone searching for that exact term will love you if they should find you in the search engine results. In fact, they will love you so much that they will very likely buy your product instantly. That's the power of real niche marketing.

Another good thing about niche marketing is that the more focused terms invariably have more words to describe them. These are the so-called long-tail keywords. They are usually easier to rank for in the search engines as they usually have lower competition levels.

If, in our last example, we wanted to target "black leather dog collars with silver studs," it would most likely to easy to make a web page rank well for that term. The page would probably not receive very many visitors, perhaps just one or two a day, but the conversion rate would be likely to be high.

In other words, most of the people visiting the page from that long keyword phrase would very likely be looking to buy a "black leather dog collars with silver studs." Finding your page selling that exact item would in all probability trigger an immediate buying spree. That's niche marketing in action.

By now you should be able to see how you can incorporate niche marketing into your marketing drive. Think in terms of being highly specific and laser targeted, and not broad and vague.

Think of it this way; if you were looking for somewhere you could buy a dog collar, would you only type "dogs" into the search engine? No, you would narrow down your search until you found what you were seeking. Think like a searcher and you'll become good at niche marketing.

How Thesis Helped Boost My AdSense Earnings

You may remember me mentioning how well the 728×90 AdSense unit has been performing on this blog. Since then, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I added it.

So I thought I’d create a video showing how to use the Thesis Feature Box function that is built right into the theme. (The code is located below the video.)

Even if you don’t use the Thesis WordPress theme, you can still apply some of the logic to your own blog (especially the CSS code).

You would still use the same CSS info on your stylesheet.css file. However, instead of using the code I provided for the custom_functions.php file below, you will add <div id=”feature_box”> INSERT BANNER CODE HERE </div> to the appropriate location of your header.php file, for example.

Note to Email/RSS subscribers: To obtain the code, it’s best to view this post on my blog.

Here’s the CSS Code to Add to custom.css (Your Stylesheet)

This will add a 100 pixel gray box below your header. Feel free to adjust the color, height, add a background image, etc.

Tai’s YouTube Earnings & His Message for You!

If you follow my Facebook page, you may have seen the picture I posted last week of myself and Tai, who playfully calls himself “The Asian Wonder.”

We met at a local WordPress meetup on September 24th.

Tai approached me at the end of the session to let me know that he recognized me from YouTube. He eagerly opened his laptop and revealed his recent earnings with the YouTube Partner program.

His excitement was refreshing, and he really wanted me to share his story with my audience.

Even though Tai’s YouTube earnings aren’t through the roof (yet), they are proof of what is possible. If you can earn $30 per month then why can’t you triple that next month, and then triple it again the following month?

When I first got into internet marketing in late 2009, I thought that Adsense was a joke and a scam cuz I had never met anyone in real life who had made money from it.

But then I ran into your YouTube video on “How To Make Money With Google Adsense” at the beginning of this year and I liked how you kept it real and it didn’t sound like a bunch of hype and B.S. so I put aside my limiting beliefs and gave it a try.

I don’t have a lot of time because of my day job so I got motivated to do youtube videos for my fitness niche after I watched your “44 YouTube Videos & 8400 Subscribers” since it’s easier for me to demonstrate on video how to work out versus writing about it.

I took my sweet ass time to implement your advice but after making over 80 youtube fitness videos, I finally got invited to monetize my youtube videos 4 months ago, however, my retarded ass never bothered to submit my videos to youtube for monetization until 2 months ago when I asked my girlfriend to set aside a day to submit all my fitness videos for monetization on 8-21-11 and BAM!…

Immediately I started making money the very NEXT day! (See Below) I couldn’t believe it!

I know you and others have been saying it all along that it was not B.S., but for some reason it seemed more real when the adsense money started rolling in.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not a whole lot as you can see in the screenshot below, however, it is a HUGE start for me and has boosted my confidence tremendously simply by knowing that I’m gonna be making at least $30/month of steady passive income without me having to do anything. And it’s only going to get better with time. WHOOOPEEEE!!!!

Looking back in retrospect, the biggest mistake I made when I first got started was I didn’t have enough belief that it would work for me and the other thing was that I did not take enough ACTION!

Let your audience know that they got to get off their ass and TAKE ACTION!!!!!

Whoever takes more action and implements more of what you talk about will simply get more results.
