Earn Money from Youtube

Making money through YouTube is fairly easy to do, if you know what you are doing. This site is ranked number 4 in traffic rank in the USA and ranked number 3 on Alexa.com , making it one of the biggest and most successful sites on the Internet.

YouTube gets over one billion views each and every day. That's a number roughly equal to one sixth of the people on this planet. That's impressive by any standards. All you need to make money through YouTube is a few hundred every day. Here's how to tap into a tiny, but profitable, drop of the daily YouTube traffic.

1. If you know how to do something, and it doesn't have to be something complicated, make a short video explaining the steps someone else needs to take to do it. For example, make a video explaining how to FTP files to a web space.

You can make a PowerPoint presentation, record it with screen capture software and add a commentary. It can be that simple. At the end of the video promote something like web hosting, or an FTP program, as an affiliate. Then all you need to do is upload your video to YouTube.

2. You can make effective videos with Windows Movie Maker, built in to the popular Windows operating system. It isn't a very sophisticated piece of software, but it can do a good job if you are careful. Use images to tell a simple story. You could make it funny perhaps, and at the end of the video you can promote a product as an affiliate.

If your video can entertain the viewer, and if the product you promote has a kind of universal appeal - that is, the average person is likely to want it, then you should make sales from the people who decide to go to the website. Simply display the web address at the end of the short video, and don't forget to tell the viewers to go there and buy it.

3. Don't just rely on YouTube visitors to find and look at your video. Get proactive! Use well researched keywords when you upload your videos. Use keywords that have a good search number, but relatively low competition count. This will help the page your video is on to rank in Google.

Go further still. Submit the RSS feed of your video page to all the RSS aggregators. Build back links to the page to help it rank better. Bookmark the page on social bookmarking sites. Submit it as a story toDigg , Propeller , Mixx and others.

Submit the RSS feeds of your submitted stories to the aggregators. Get more back links. If you can get the page your YouTube video is on to rank high in Google, Yahoo and Bing, you will get a lot more visitors. If you get more visitors, you will make more sales.

The trick of making money with YouTube is not really about employing any particular technique. It's about persevering and not giving up. Try to think outside the box. Keep pushing the page. Most people post a video, sit back and wait. Don't! Keep moving forward.

Earn Money with SEO

SEO is an acronym that stands for search engine optimization. This refers to websites or web pages that are set up in such a way that they are optimized for the various factors that a search engine looks for when deciding where to rank the page.

A well SEO'd web page will normally rank high and have the power to stay there. It will also need off-page factors to keep it there, mainly good quality back links from a variety of relevant sites.

To earn money from SEO you need a well optimized page that ranks well for its keyword. Then all you have to do is monetize the page AdSense perhaps and keep building the site to add more optimized pages that will also rank and bring in money. Here's how to do it:

1. You will need a domain name. If possible, choose a domain name that is the exact main keyword phrase of your website. NameCheap and GoDaddy are both good domain registrars.

2. One of the easiest ways to build a website is to use the WordPress software . Their site lets you download the software free and tells you how to install in minutes. It's that easy.

3. You will need a web host. HostGator is very good, very popular and very inexpensive.

4. You will need the All In One SEO plugin for WordPress: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/ Follow the instructions for installing and operating this plugin.

5. You will need a theme for your WordPress blog as the default WordPress theme looks really common. Themes allow you to customize the look and feel of the site: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

6. You may need an FTP program, though with HostGator you can install WordPress directly from within the hosting account using Fantasico in the cPanel. In case you need it, FileZilla is a free and excellent FTP program.

You will use the All In One SEO plugin to assist you in placing the main keyword in the page document title. Also include the main keyword in the keyword field, and write a short description that starts with the main keyword, if possible, but definitely include in somewhere in the description.

The main page should have a well written article as the first post. You can make it sticky so that the rest of the posts to come don't push it down. It will always stay on top.

The page headline should be in an H1 tag and should have the main keyword phrase in it, preferably starting with it. The body should start with the main keyword phrase too. Thereafter the main keyword can be sprinkled throughout the body of the article, but don't let the density go much above 2% - 1% is better.

Go to Google.com and type in your main keyword phrase with a tilde before each word. If your keyword is "dog training," for example, type in dog training. This will return synonyms and useful theme words. These will be bolded in the results. Use these words throughout the body of your article for a better themed result.

Once your website is live, start to get back links to it and keep promoting it with article marketing, or whatever else you want to do. Email Marketing jobs

Email marketing can be an extremely profitable way to earn money online, but only if it is done properly. There are many ways to do email marketing wrong, either deliberately, or accidentally, and it is important that you know the differences before you try it.

Email marketing is also sometimes called permission marketing as it should always involve the willing permission of the recipient of any emails you send out. If you send out emails to a large number of people, and you do not gain their permission to do so first, it is usually called spam, or more kindly, unsolicited email.

In the physical world we are all familiar with direct mail pieces we receive from the postman. We may call it junk mail, but by and large we tolerate it. In the online world, the email equivalent of junk mail is not tolerated, and is in fact illegal. You can get into serious trouble with the law if you send out emails in bulk without permission.

You may be wondering by now how it is possible to get the permission of people you can't even contact! That is a fair point, and you do it by letting them come to you, and not the other way around. You build a list of people who all agree to receive occasional emails from you.

There are many ways to build a list. The easiest way is probably to include a sign up form on your website for a free newsletter. The newsletter doesn't have to be news, strictly speaking. It could be the occasional update on your product range, or just a helpful tip or two sent out regularly that is relevant to the topic of your website.

It is also usual to offer your visitors a free gift for signing up to your newsletter. This can be an ebook or something similar, but something of value that the visitor wants to have. When they submit their name and email address, they will receive the free gift by return email through an autoresponder system that you set up previously.

An autoresponder system is not essential for email marketing, but it is strongly advised. Most people use an autoresponder service, rather than install their own server software. Two of the most popular and most reliable autoresponder services are Aweber and Get Response.

The problem of possibly being accused of sending spam is largely overcome by using double optin when capturing email addresses. This means that people who submit their name and email address are asked again if they really want to sign up.

They receive an email from the autoresponder service asking them to click a link embedded in the email if they agree to receive emails from you. When they do this they opt in twice, or double optin.

If they subsequently accuse you of sending out spam, as people sometimes forget they signed up in the first place, you will have the evidence to prove that they gave their express permission twice to receive your emails.

Once you have built up a list of several hundred, or several thousand people, you can send them the occasional email promoting a product, either as an affiliate, or with one of your own products. Not everyone will buy from you, but a percentage can be expected to.

In this way, and over time, you can build up a close relationship with your list of people who are all willing to receive your emails, and you can make a good living doing so. Proper email marketing isn't usually a success overnight, but it can be extremely lucrative with a bit of time and patience.

Google AdSense — Why Johnny Said No.

A CopyBlogger post titled, “How to Do 500 Times Better Than AdSense” really caught my attention last week.

It was written by Johnny B. Truant, a blogger who made the decision to stop using AdSense.

His strategy was like many others…

Johnny created several anonymous sites with loads of search-engine-optimized content.

Next, he submitted his sites to various directories and social networking websites to generate traffic.

After about 9 months of nonstop hard work, he received his first AdSense check for $111. If you do the math, that’s about $12/month.

Meanwhile, he created another blog on a subject that he is more passionate about (technology services). By his 9th month he was pulling in five figures per month from his not-so-anonymous business blog without AdSense ads.

Johnny then made the decision to drop AdSense.

Where I Disagree With Johnny

In the CopyBlogger article, Johnny states a few reasons why he doesn’t like AdSense. He made some valid points, but one reason he gave was the anonymity factor.

He seems to suggest you have to be anonymous to do well with AdSense, and my earnings are proof that is not true.

You don’t have to be anonymous, it’s just that many people choose that route because they are trying to build a quick business instead of taking the time to build a trusted brand with one website.

There are a lot of people making good money with the anonymous, multi-site model, but that’s just not for me.

My method of building an individual brand through content takes much longer to build up, but the long-term rewards are worth it — both from an AdSense and affiliate marketing standpoint.

AdSense – Good or Bad?

Whether or not AdSense is the best model is certainly debatable. Of course, there is the potential that the ads will distract from your content, the confusion they can cause among visitors, the potential loss of traffic and more.

So I definitely understand the argument that it may not be the best solution for everyone. As a site owner, you should weigh the pros and cons and decide if it makes sense with your strategy.

I’ve also never been a fan of AdSense-only websites. You need to diversify your monetization portfolio. Ask yourself. If AdSense shut down today where would your income come from?

Even though I make between $6K and $8K per month with AdSense, my business would not die without it. You should never put all your eggs in one basket. AdSense can be PART of your model, but it shouldn’t BE your model.

I really hope you take the time to read Johnny’s article. I love posts like this because they spark discussion.

While I think Johnny made some valid points, I certainly don’t agree with them all. Maybe I’ve been blinded by my earnings, but I plan to stay put.

Nevertheless, I respect his decision to discontinue with AdSense. It’s certainly not for everyone.

Earn More With AdSense by Targeting Channels

Google is reminding AdSense publishers to target channels to help maximize earnings for the upcoming Holidays. If you don’t understand what that means, this video will shed some light…

The take-home lesson here is that if you have high-performing channels, it makes sense to allow targeting because placement advertisers will seek them out — especially if you have units near the top of the page.

Placement advertisers want to be featured on units with good click-thru ratios that are placed above the fold.

It may even be worth experimenting and creating new units on heavily trafficked pages just to capitalize on the placement advertiser’s interest.

Now, a word of caution about all this…

Don’t forget to keep your site’s overall monetization goals in mind. You may not want AdSense ads competing with your top earning affiliate programs or products you sell.

However, if you have high-traffic pages that don’t necessarily support sales for your main products, why not try to generate more AdSense earnings through placement targeting?

How Thesis Helped Boost My AdSense Earnings

You may remember me mentioning how well the 728×90 AdSense unit has been performing on this blog. Since then, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I added it.

So I thought I’d create a video showing how to use the Thesis Feature Box function that is built right into the theme. (The code is located below the video.)

Even if you don’t use the Thesis WordPress theme, you can still apply some of the logic to your own blog (especially the CSS code).

You would still use the same CSS info on your stylesheet.css file. However, instead of using the code I provided for the custom_functions.php file below, you will add <div id=”feature_box”> INSERT BANNER CODE HERE </div> to the appropriate location of your header.php file, for example.

Are You Cashing In With ClickBank? [Video]

Just like any other affiliate program, making good money withClickBank requires having enough traffic along with finding appropriate and relevant books for your audience.

You also have to be careful with ClickBank. Yes, the high commissions are nice, but you should choose products wisely.

Even though it’s one of my top money making affiliate programs, a lot of work and experimentation goes into getting those sales.

Lisa, Get a REAL Job!

Geez, if I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard that in the last 5 years…

This post was inspired by comments I’ve received over the years about not having a real job, and a few e-mails from “Netpreneur” hopefuls who receive earfuls of doubt from family and friends regarding making a living online.

It still amazes me that in 2010 Internet marketing doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Some people are old fashioned and will never accept that it’s actually possible to earn a good, honest living outside a cubicle.

However, in their defense, most people don’t know anyone personally making a living online, so it is somewhat understandable why many heads are filled with doubt and skepticism.

For the sake of this post I will be referring to my old 9 to 5 job (Web Production Analyst) as my “real job” and my Internet biz as my “fake job.”

“Real Jobs Pay Overtime”

I often think back to that “real job” and how many days I spent one, two or even three hours working overtime and never got paid for it because I was a salary employee.

Compare that to my “fake job” today where I spent an extra 15 minutes adding/adjusting some Google ads on my site and earned an additional $1,000 for the month.

“Real Jobs Give Salary Increases”

When I quit my “real job” in 2006, my salary was actually 4% LESSthan it was than when I was hired (4 years prior) due to budget cuts, etc. None of our raises ever caught up with the pay cuts.

At my “fake job”, I haven’t had a decrease in my earnings since 2001. *knock on wood*

“People Work Harder at Real Jobs”

At my “real job”, I worked 40 hours per week, but I wonder how many of those 40 hours were spent chit-chatting at the water cooler, surfing the web and taking long lunch breaks. Hmmmm……

At my “fake job” there are many days where I easily put in 15 hours of work. I’m positive my total number of actual work hours for the week are far greater than any “real job” I’ve had.

Not to mention weekends. Technically, I don’t have many days off anymore (by choice, of course) and have the wear and tear on my arm muscles to show for it. (Yes, I’m still dealing with the typing strain injury from a year ago.)

I won’t bore you with too many statistics and numbers, but if I totaled up the hours I worked on my websites while I still had my 9 to 5 job, your head would probably spin. It was pure craziness, but well worth it now that I look back on it.

“Real Jobs Offer Security”

Countless people encouraged me to stay with my “real job” for security. Let’s see. I dodged about 4 rounds of layoffs over the course of 5 years and never knew when the next round was around the corner. Yeah, real secure. And I won’t even go into the future of pensions and social security.

At my “fake job”, I can now live on my residual income alone (thanks to SiteSell and domain reselling.) So if my sites ever died, I’d still have some sort of backup.

How many “real jobs” do you know that still pay you indefinitely if you quit or get laid off?

To Sum it Up…

I spend way more hours on my websites than I ever did at any 9 to 5 and make way more money. But because I’m not hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock, getting up every morning with the chickens, and fighting rush hour traffic, some say it doesn’t count as a real job.

Sounds silly, I know, but many people feel this way.

Have people in your life tried to discourage you from doing Internet marketing full time because it’s not a “real job”? Remind them thatany form of work that is legal and makes enough money to pay your bills is a real job no matter what form it comes in.

Don’t Pour The “Hater”ade Just Yet

When I write posts like this, it’s inevitable that at least one person will say, “Lisa, people are just hating/jealous.” While that may be true in some cases, I honestly believe most of these people are just uninformed about the Internet Marketing world.

As I said earlier, very few people know anyone personally making a good living online. So they might be oblivious to the work that is actually involved, and it’s easy to write it off as “wasting time” or “playing around.”

Not everyone is hating. Some people just haven’t witnessed enough (or any) real examples of people making worthwhile money online.

Quick Note: I know that many of you may be happy with your 9 to 5′s and/or have no intentions of working online full time. This type of career is not for everyone and certainly has its disadvantages.
This was just to address those who still don’t believe that Internet marketing is a real job. Quite frankly, that statement is an insult to those of us who have put in the hours to make it happen and love what we do.

Are Your Visitors Finding What They Need?

Every now and then I check Google Analytics to review my top search terms from my internal site search to make sure my visitors are finding what they need. Last week I did a check on my static site and found that my top searched terms are…

1) Indent

2) AdSense

3) Camera

4) Dreamweaver

5) WordPress

I must say, the word “indent” keyword surprised me a bit — especially at #1. “Camera” was a bit of a surprise as well. However, after thinking it through a bit, it makes sense. I do a lot of YouTube videos and people often email me or post questions on YouTube about what camera/software I use.

Nevertheless, I am putting the finishing touches on a new page that discusses recording online videos, the camera I use and additional video tips.

When’s the last time you performed this exercise? You may be surprised to find what people are looking for on your site. I never would have guessed “indent” would be the #1 searched term on2CreateAWebSite.com.

Always make sure you’re giving your visitors what they need by reviewing your search reports on a regular basis. As website owners, we often assume people can find everything, but your search reports may tell a different story.

And if you aren’t tracking this, sign up with Google Custom Search. If you use Google Analytics, you can pull up the reports right inside your account under the “Content” tab.

This is just a quick reminder to check those reports from time to time. 40 Ways to Make Money on the Internet

I did a little bookmark scrub this morning and thought I would share the remaining content of my "Online Money" folder. To warn you, there are certain things that I don't like and never bookmark so:

What's NOT included: Taking Paid Surveys, Getting Paid to Surf the Internet, MLM, Contest Sites, "Buy my DVD, CD, Audiobook", etc.

What IS included: Things you can use to legitimately make money online - Everything from Getting Paid to review software to good ole' Adsense.

Infolinks - Infolinks is probably the highest paying option for your in-text advertising. On DLM, you will see underlined links scattered throughout articles. Those are a function of Infolinks and without disclosing too much, it's been a great source of income. Best is that they accept all sizes of websites and blogs. Just sign up and begin.

Build a Niche Store - This is a simple store development platform which enables you to create content based sites that generate income through the eBay affiliate programs. Pretty darn simple and increasingly popular.
Adbrite - Sell space on your site for text ads. This would work like the DLM Marketplace you see on the right of my pages although I chose to manage it myself.
Amazon Affiliate Program - Easily create a store or shopping section on your site instead of sending your visitors to Amazon. Amazon handles the shopping cart and fulfillment.
Amazon Seller - Sell your stuff on Amazon
Associated Content - If you write a story, how-to, rant, how-to cut grass, etc., you can submit it to them and they will pay you $3-$20 per article if they like it.
Yahoo! Merchant Solutions - This is a pretty simple and cheap way to create an online store.
Azoogleads - Another ad program. They do have some decent companies lined up as advertisers. You provide space, they'll provide an ad.
BidVertiser - PPC (pay per click) program with a low $10 payout amount.
Blog - Start a blog and consistently write excellent content. With good ad placement, you may make some money. I detail my process here: Simply Said, How to Blog.
Cafepress - You provide a design, they'll toss it on a T-Shirt, Hat, etc. No upfront costs. Get a free online shop and promote your products on your website.
Chitika - Their eMiniMalls service has shown great results for many Bloggers and site owners. You choose a keyword and they show relevant products on your site using a pretty unique interface.
Clickbank - Quickly becoming my favorite affiliate program. They have thousands of things for you to advertise on your site.
ClicknWork - Get paid $5-$150 per hour for basically doing freelance work on a per-assignment basis. You have to pass a pretty tough test to get in.
Clicksor - These are the guys that generate contextual ads on sites that show up when you hover over a double-underlined word.
Commission Junction - If you have a site, you can join Commission Junction. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. There are easily over 1,000 companies to choose from here.
CreamAid - For blogs only, advertisers provide you with a topic and you write about it on your site. To do this, you have to install a flash widget into your blog post. The more people you bring into the conversation through the widget, the more you get paid. It's difficult to explain.
eefoof - Think of it as YouTube + Flickr + Music. You add original content and they pay you based on the visitors you attract.
Ether - If you are an expert on something, Ether provides a way for people to pay you to talk about it in a one-on-one setting. If you want to charge $250/hr, that's fine. You have to do all the advertising so you should have a blog or site already established.
eBay- Come on, you know what this is. Gather your junk and sell it!

eBay Stores - If you have a real store and want to sell your stuff online, this is a decent option to get you started.
ELance - Name gives it away. Programmers, Codes, Web Designers, Writers, Editors, can look for freelance opportunities.
Feedvertising - This is an arm of Text Link Ads and is currently only good for Wordpress users. This does me no good currently, but as you can guess, they place ads in your feed(s).
Feedburner / Google - Not only are they the best place to house your feeds, they will also add ads to your feed and website. You get paid per impression and if you implement Google Adsense to your feed, you are paid per click.
Google Adsense - Come on, you don't need an explanation; these ads are all over the place. Google displays relevant ads based on your site's content
Google Adwords - Create simple text ads and choose keywords that determine when they are displayed. This is where the Adsense Content comes from. You do not need a site for this.
H3.com - Get paid to fill jobs. Commissions range from $50-$5,000. It all depends on how tough the job is to fill and how desperate the hiring company is. This is another one that's tough to explain.
Indeed.com - Add their job board to your site. They then post jobs based on the geographic location of visitors and the position types you pre-select. I tried it and I they continually report that I sent 0 visitors and I know that's not right. Nevertheless, I may have an isolated problem so they make the list.
InnerSell - If you have a customer that wants to buy something you cannot sell, you can sell the lead here.
Jigsaw - It's a pretty flaky model but if you have a Rolodex full of good contacts, you can sell them here. I can't make sense of it but it looks like you get $0.10 per profile.
LinkShare.com - If you have a site, you can join Linkshare. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. Like Commission Junction, there are a ton of companies waiting to evaluate your site.
Microsoft Adcenter - Bid on keywords and Microsoft places your created ads then they are searched for. This is similar to Google Adwords. You do not need a site for this.
Overstock.com - Sell your stuff on Overstock.com
Pay Per Post - I don't agree with this model entirely but they have advertisers that will pay you to write about their products on your blog.
Pheedo - If you have an RSS feed, run it through Pheedo. Like Feedburner, they can include ads into your feed and if you really become large, advertisers will pay a premium for you to show their ads.
Shareasale.com - I've used them for a couple years for some banner advertising. They are similar to Commission Junction and Linkshare however they seem to have lower tiered companies with advertising offers.
Shoemoney - This is a blog that can teach you a ton on making money online. I've spent hours reading his old stuff.
Software Judge - They will pay you up to $50 to review software.
Text Link Ads - I have never made a dime here but I know people that have. You can earn by sending advertisers to them or by selling spots on your site. You must have a real site or blog to do this - nothing on a shared domain (i.e. /blogspot).
Vibrant Media - Don't bother unless your site has 500,000 page views of text based content a month. If you have that readership, these are the guys that display bubble box ads to underlined words on your site.
West Work At Home Agent - Not entirely online but this is worth a mention because it's won awards and is very legitimate. If you are an at-home Mom or free-lancer without work, you should check this out.
